It’s been a rough couple of years here at The Foster Pack home. In 2019 we lost all three of our senior dogs; Ozzy, Meaty and Snuggie. It was heartbreaking. We hoped to have a reprieve after that. But we didn’t get it.
In October 2019, Chewy Lewis’s (Lewy’s) cancer returned, growing rapidly. He had surgery at the end of October, to remove the tumor, and seemed to bounce back pretty well, even though his fur never grew back on that side. Unfortunately, it didn’t last long, and by mid-January it was back with a vengeance.
Chewy Lewis April 28th, 2007 – January 29th 2020
On January 29th, just a year after we lost old man Oz, we had to say goodbye to our Chewy Lewy. His crossing the rainbow bridge, so close on the heels of the rest, left us reeling. And we’re still grieving him.
Lewy was our Alpha, or so he thought. He was our police, security, and best friend all rolled into one. For 12 years, he kept his siblings, both fur and human, in line. He tried his best to scare off anyone that wondered too close to his territory and people. And he did it well, despite weighing in at a whopping 24 lbs at his heaviest. Our Lewy was always there to comfort us when we were feeling down, or just to cuddle for a nap. He truly was our best friend.
We’re still figuring out how to live without him. I can barely type this much about him without bawling like a baby. Lewy was the only other dog that Woobie actually liked, he’s still mourning his best friend too. We’re trying to find a new normal, which of course isn’t helped by the state of the country during the Covid-19 mess. But we’re working on it.
Hopefully I’ll be able to provide more updates soon. We have had a few new fosters in the past year, including 8 kitties, a litter of puppies, and the sweetest little Yorkie ever. We also still have Razzie, the blind cattle dog, and the three little Cheese Nip Chihuahuas; Chiquita, Lassie and Dotty.
I’ve also gone back to a job outside the house, at a local pet resort and doggy daycare center, that I absolutely love! It’s the best stress relief I’ve ever found. So stay tuned for more updates soon.
