Yesterday was a big day for Mama Lucky and her puppies. The puppies got their first shots, and Mama Lucky got to go along for the ride.  She does love to ride along for any reason!

Unfortunately, we didn’t get a whole lot of pictures of the big day.  As I slammed my thumb in the truck door when we got to the vet’s office.  And well, it distracted me.  And made me want to cry.  And I couldn’t focus on the adorable puppies in a basket at my feet.

The puppies did great.  Although, they don’t seem to prefer to travel in laundry baskets.  I simply didn’t have time to find enough portable crates to take them in.  And Mama Lucky was a bit nervous when they took her babies out of her site to give them their shots.

The puppies are getting big

Bobby, our little bean, at 5. 3 lbs, is not the runt of the litter anymore.  At 5.2 lbs, the little grey lady, now called Sheena, is the smallest in the litter.  So she’s come to stay with us, and Bobby, for the week for some fattening up.  That is if she doesn’t cry all night tonight, like she did last night…

Come Sunday the whole litter will be together so that Mama Lucky can teach them some manners until it’s time for them to go to their forever homes around the first of the year.

The other six babies weigh between 6-8 lbs.  They are getting so big, and changing their looks so much.  Our little teddy bear is starting to look more like a little German Shepard.  Sheena, the grey lady, is looking like a German Short Hair Pointer.  And baby Bobby, possibly a Border Collie mix.  And we have one little boy, Rebel, who looks like Rottweiler, maybe?  He’s got the right coloring.  The other four look much like Mama Lucky, small lab mixes.

On Saturday the entire litter is guest starring at the annual animal shelter benefit fundraiser.  Won’t that be fun.  Let’s hope we all survive the event.  Mainly me.  At least I’ll have something to focus on during the fundraiser, trying to keep a playpen full of puppies clean and presentable.  That might be a chore, since they like to shred pee pads as quickly as you can lay them down.

We’ve also got another new foster that I’ll try to introduce tomorrow.  If I can get her to sit still long enough for me to get any pictures of her.  But we’ll tell you  this: she is a beauty!
