Wow, it’s hard to believe it’s been 8 weeks since we first met Mama Lucky and her 8 newborn puppies.  But it has been, today our babies are 8 weeks old.  And boy are they getting big.  And bad, as most puppies do.

Eight 8 week old puppies are a handful

As we realized on Saturday when they guest starred at a fundraiser for our rescue organization.  But they sure did have a good time showing off for all of the guests.  And they loved being loved up so much, by so many different people.  They really got lots of socializing with people on Saturday, and they did great.

And it was the first time the others, besides Bobby and Sheena, had been away from Mama Lucky for any length of time.  It gave Mama Lucky a nice break from them for a few hours too.  Not to mention their foster mom and sister, who have been caring for them constantly for 7 weeks now.  I think they enjoyed the little break too.

Mama Lucky

Mama Lucky has weaned the rest of the puppies.  She prefers to spend most of her time in her own bed now – outside of the puppy pen.  Unfortunately, they sometimes manage to escape and get to her.  Much to her annoyance.  We’re hoping now that she’s not feeding so many little mouths, that she’ll start to put on some weight.  She’s still a bit underweight for her size.  But other than needing to add a few pounds, Mama Lucky is doing great.  She loves attention, from anyone willing to give her some.  She’s just such a good girl.

The Little Ones

Bobby has still been residing with us, for the last few weeks.  And Sheena came to stay last week, so we could try to fatten her up.  Today I’ve worked on weaning them from the puppy formula, that they so love.  They aren’t happy about it.  But hopefully they’ll be done crying over the missing milk tomorrow.  We’re hoping to move them back over to be with their mom and siblings until it’s time for them to be spayed and neutered.

There isn’t much more I can do for them.  They’re eating dry food and growing.  Bobby is still growing faster than little Sheena now.  But she may just be going to be a smaller, daintier dog.  She is just too cute!

Just a few more weeks, and they’ll be spayed and neutered, have the next of their puppy shots.  Then it’ll be time for our babies to find homes of their own.  And after the reaction and attention they received on Saturday, I don’t think any of the little cuties are going to have a hard time getting adopted.  Not even the ones who are part flesh eating velociraptor (Bobby and Sheena).

Here they are:

I’m trying to get better photos of the puppies.  But every time I visit, they get so wound up they don’t sit still long enough.
