Little Bean hit 2 pounds this week, and he earned a name.  Bobby.

Our little guy is growing good, although I don’t think he’ll ever catch up with his siblings.  It could be that he was fathered by a smaller dog than the rest of the litter.  It could be just that’s he’s the runt.  Either way, he’s happy and healthy, and he is growing.  And becoming a tiny monster.

Bobby – The Naming Process

We have been trying to come up with a name for the little guy that would stick.  Sister had at one point named him Aladdin.  But it just didn’t seem to fit.  So he was still called Little Bean, or Beanie Baby.  But this weekend he earned a name.  And it’s stuck, so he’s now Bobby.

Bobby, derived from Bawl-Baby.  Sister though Bobby was what I was muttering on Thursday night as I bounced the baby through the house trying to get him to quit crying.  I was actually chanting Bawl-Baby over and over.  That seems to be his favorite thing to do – if he doesn’t get his way.

But Bobby stuck.  So Little Bean is officially Bobby for now.  I’m sure his adoptive family will change that when he’s adopted after the first of the year.

Growing Up Fast

Bobby wants to be a big boy.  He’s got teeth now, and he knows how to use them.  On everything but his food.  He chews on everything and everyone he can get his little teeth on.  But he still wants his dog food but through the food processor before he’ll eat it.  Although he will nibble out of Cami’s bowl of totally dry puppy food when she’s done with it and allows him access.

He still sleeps in the Pup-quarium, but he prefers to spend his waking time with Cami.  Either gated in Sister’s bedroom, or in the playpen with Oz and Snuggie too.  Cami is great with him.  She has learned to play very gently, and she lets him climb all over her and chew on her.  She even shares her favorite bed with him.  Maybe because she’s finally not the smallest dog in the house.  Oz and Snuggie tolerate him, but don’t try to him engage in play.

Mama Lucky and The Other Puppies

Hopefully, soon he’ll be able to go back and live with his mom and siblings.  Who are doing great, by the way.  They are really getting big, and changing their looks.  But it’s getting easier to tell all of the black and whites apart.

Bobby doesn’t really want to go back to visit his siblings as much.  He doesn’t want to nurse from Mama Lucky anymore.  He just sits at my feet and cries until I pick him up and load him in his bag to come home.  But we’re hoping that after the holidays, around his 6 wk birthday, that he’ll be able to hold his own against his siblings and get enough to eat there.  I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Until then, Bobby still rules our lives.  But it’s getting easier.  At least there’s no more getting up every three hours to bottle feed him…

(Note: I had lots of photos of Mama Lucky and the other puppies, but due to computer problems, they are still stuck in my phone, and don’t want to upload.  Hopefully I’ll get them up soon.)
