Well, Razzie’s puppies are gone, all but one already in their new homes, and we’ve welcomed foster dog #85 into our home. Rebecca is a 3 year old Chihuahua. We don’t know much about her former life. But she’s a very scared little girl, who’s absolutely terrified of being picked up.
Fortunately, We’re already making progress, and she’s only been here a little over a week. She loves to sit on my lap and be snuggled, as long as I’m sitting somewhere that she can get on my lap herself. And she’s comfortable being on the furniture by herself. For the first week, she’d only lay on the couch when we weren’t looking. Now she spends most of her days lounging wherever the biggest pile of blankets is. Or racing through the house with Cami and Monkey. She looks a lot like Monkey, and we occasionally get them confused when they’re racing around.
Unfortunately, our sweet little Chihuahua still hasn’t warmed up to Sister, and rarely lets her touch her. And she still runs if she thinks I’m going to try to pick her up. Which makes leashing her to go potty a huge undertaking. She’s also not housebroken, and likes to “hide” while she goes. I’m still trying to figure out how this little girl manages to poop under the couch which has less than 4 inches of clearance. She’s a normal Chihuahua size, not a very tiny one, about 5-6 inches high at her back. It just amazes me.
She’s already had some interest in her at the shelter, but we’re trying to give her a little more time to learn how to be a beloved dog, before we try to do meet and greets. But I have a feeling she won’t be with us for too much longer. Although she needs some training, and patience, she such a sweet little girl, with big potential.
